Sea Stachura Reported On Underground Railroad Quilts

by | October 27, 2025

For NPR, Sea Stachura reported on the legacy of Underground Railroad Quilts. Stachura told Study Hall, “After learning about the online and local popularity of Underground Railroad Quilts, I was psyched to tell a story of enslaved people subtly helping escapees. But as I dug into the reporting, I found that, in fact, these quilts likely never existed. Despite that, American quilters of all backgrounds persisted in making the quilts.”
