by | January 16, 2025

For Fortune, Abigail Bassett reported on the economic impact of the recent fires in Altadena. Bassett told Study Hall, “Covering breaking news is a tough gig, and as a climate disaster survivor myself, (I lost part of my home in 2012’s Hurricane Sandy in New York), this was a tough piece to report.”

She adds, “I’m really proud of how I covered this crisis for Fortune Magazine, and accurately represented the incredible spirit of the people of Altadena who have lost everything.”

Bassett’s writing has appeared in The Observer, National Geographic, and other outlets
