Ellen Acconcia Pondered The Meaning of Hope and Change
For Next Avenue, Ellen Acconcia wrote about the real meaning of hope and change in an uncertain world. Acconcia told Study Hall, “I became interested in philosopher Byung-Chul Han’s The Spirit of Hope after hearing about it in a blog by Nick Cave, frontman for the alt-punk band The Bad Seeds. I delved into the difference between ‘hope’ and ‘faith’ and talked about hope being an agent of change and how to incorporate generational cooperation into making change.”
Acconcia writes, “I’ve struggled with the loss of parents and friends, a spouse to an unexpected death, and I help an adult child navigate their health care amid the ups and downs of mental illness. By all accounts, I should be hopeless. I’m often anxious and have been treating my depression for years but, I also continue to hope that I’d find solutions to the crises I’ve faced.”
