Madison Bolt Wrote About Her Experience Starting A Nonprofit Organization To Teach Swimming In Lombok, Indonesia
Madison Bolt profiled a group of local women in Lombok, Indonesia who are learning how to swim and surf from classes with OceanFolx, a nonprofit organization she founded.
Bolt shares how she started the organization with the help of local women Misel and Raimin. She writes, “Together, we imagined a project that would serve the community that had given me so much, from countless waves to heaping plates of nasi goreng, stunning sunset surfs, and endless starry nights.”
In the piece, she discusses why she started the organization. The piece also features a Q&A panel discussion with a group of local women from Lombok who share their experience learning how to swim and surf.
Bolt told Study Hall, “Through passing the mic to local women, I highlighted their opinions and views on their connection with the ocean. Since I speak the local language, I was able to uncover diverse opinions and stories that would otherwise have gone untold.”
