Matthew King Reported On The Breakdown Of Cybersecurity’s Global Warning Systems
For MIT Technology Review, Matthew King reported on cybersecurity’s early warning system. He told Study Hall, “I investigated this mysterious breakdown, speaking with former CVE Board members, vulnerability researchers, security engineers, and policy experts to understand how critical resources like the National Vulnerability Database have been stalled by insurmountable backlogs.”
He added, “As the US-funded status quo deteriorates, nations and companies are scrambling to build new approaches, and a flight to paid software threatens to widen the gap between security haves and have-nots when it comes to basic threat intelligence. The biggest reporting challenges here were the fast-moving nature of the crisis, as well as the deeply technical subject matter – translating acronyms like CVE and NVD into terms with human stakes and tangible implications around public safety.”
Matt’s writing has appeared in The Baffler, New York Review of Architecture, and other outlets.
