Nathaniel Moore Reported On A Christian Men’s Retreat

by | April 30, 2025

For Slate,Nathaniel Moore reported on a Christian men’s retreat in rural Virginia to “understand what American guys see in Donald Trump.”

Moore told Study Hall that he wanted to investigate two questions: “How much is evangelical masculinity today based on Christ’s example and how much of it is now based on Trump’s? Are these retreats offering an effective balm for men’s suffering, or are they reinforcing ideas that contribute to men’s alienation?”

In the piece, Moore writes, “This vision of masculinity may be based on domination, but, in the absence of a clear progressive alternative, it’s the only vision on offer. Little surprise, then, that given the choice between something and nothing, more and more young men all over America are rolling the dice on tough love.”

Moore’s writing has appeared in Politico, The New Republic, and more.
