Study Hall Member Alessandra Bergamin Investigated the Link Between Killings of Environmental Defenders and U.S. Security Assistance

For In These Times, Alessandra Bergamin reported on “how U.S. security assistance contributes to violence against environmental defenders around the world.” Bergamin spent a year investigating the violence. The article also draws from data “from public sources to conservatively identify 573 killings of environmental activists” to determine that “close to half involved the state.”
