For Produced By Magazine, Katie Grant wrote a report on the inequities deaf and hard-of-hearing creatives encounter in Hollywood.   Grant told Study Hall, “Getting hearing aids at 52 was embarrassing but also the best thing that ever happened to my career. Now that I’m part of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, I am compelled to speak up for the inequities I encounter.”

For the piece, she interviewed 12 people including the actress Marlee Matlin. She says that most of the interviews were conducted on Zoom with an ASL interpreter.

The piece won a 2024 SoCal Journalism Award for “Magazine, Print Feature: Entertainment Related.”

Grant’s writing has appeared in Emmy Magazine and HuffPost.
