Study Hall Member Melissa Hart Reported on Women Caring for Children, Elderly Parents, and Intellectually-Disabled Siblings
Inspired by her own middle-aged brother with Down Syndrome, Melissa Hart wrote a story for Dame Magazine about “a little-known sub-demographic of the sandwich generation–women taking care of elderly parents, children, and their middle-aged developmentally/intellectually disabled siblings.” Hart says she “incorporated personal experience into insights from the mother of film star Zack Gottsagen, as well as two other sources, and included statistics on the Sandwich generation to give the discussion further context.”
Hart’s writing has appeared in The Washington Post, Boston Globe, Muse Magazine.
