Study Hall Member Taylor Crumpton Reported on The History Of Juneteenth Fashion

by | June 25, 2024

For Essence, Taylor Crumpton wrote about the history of Juneteenth fashion. In her piece, Crumpton analyzes the sartorial impact of Juneteenth and the holiday’s long history in fashion, particularly in Texas. She touches upon how an “unintended consequence” of Juneteenth  becoming a federal holiday is “the erasure and loss of its deep, rich, and vast cultural traditions and heritage. Juneteenth is not a Black holiday or a Southern holiday, but specifically a Black Texan holiday.”

Crumpton has written for TIME, Essence, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal
