Study Hall Member Avital N. Nathman Co-Wrote An Op-Ed On The Numbers Behind the Maternal Health Crisis
For U.S. News and World Report, Avital N. Nathman, a Study Hall member, wrote an op-ed about the current maternal health crisis. Co-written with Deborah Wage, the op-ed comments on how according to a 2022 CDC report, “84% of all pregnancy-related deaths were preventable” and the ways in which the American healthcare industry is “spending a lot of money on a broken industry that is failing us.” Nathman advocates for solutions, such as investing more in the “midwifery model of care.”
Nathman has written The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Teen Vogue, and numerous other outlets. In addition, she is the author of The Good Mother Myth: Redefining Motherhood To Fit Reality.
