For Slate, Pat Brothwell wrote an essay about stating his preferences for “no Republicans, please” in his Grindr profile. The essay touches upon his experience interacting with Trump supporters during the Trump presidency and how he learned to set boundaries for himself on the widely popular dating app. He writes, “While it may seem that “No Republicans” has made my Grindr experience overwhelmingly negative, it has made me much more comfortable advocating for myself on a larger playing field.”
