Study Hall Member Emma Smith Wrote About How COVID-19 Became So Politicized

by | July 16, 2024

For Long Covid Connection, Emma Smith wrote about how COVID-19 became so politicized in the United States. Reflecting on the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Smith writes about how President Donald Trump mishandled the crisis and turned it into a political, rather than a public health, issue.

Smith writes, “I do understand, as a human and a woman, being frustrated by the government, politicians and doctors using policy to control individuals’ private health care choices. But also as a human, I ask, where do we draw the line between preserving American freedom and protecting individuals’ health and safety? They can co-exist.”
