by | July 22, 2024

For Project Optimist, Jana Studelska reported on the aftermath of a wildfire In northeastern Minnesota. In her piece, Studelska investigated how “wildfires are increasing in frequency and severity” in Superior National Forest, and recounts how “the 2021 Greenwood Fire exploded into a pyrocumulus cloud, eating tens of thousands of acres and leaving property owners with piles of melted, toxic waste that were once homes and garages — and no help from any government agency.” Her article shows how three years later, locals are still dealing with the impact of the fire and focused on rebuilding.

Studelska’s writing has appeared in the MinnPost and Healthline.
