Study Hall Member Lynnette Lyons Wrote About Being Her Father’s Sole Caretaker
For Business Insider, Lynnette Lyons wrote an essay about how as the only one of her siblings who had a relationship with her father, she was tasked with being his caretaker when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. In her essay, Lyons characterizes this experience as “eldest daughter syndrome.”
Lyons says, “When Business Insider asked for pieces on unique parent-child relationships, I began reflecting on my strange relationship with my father. I have two younger siblings, but when our father more or less disappeared from our lives when we were children, only to reappear later with a host of health issues, I was the only one who felt a sense of responsibility to take care of him. This essay is an analysis of that situation and its outcome.”
Lyons has previously written about parenting for Insider.
