Study Hall Community’s 2024 Election Coverage

As this election season comes to a close, we’d like to use this opportunity to highlight the Study Hall community’s political coverage. We are proud to provide resources for such an eclectic range of writers doing vital work. Study Hall members wrote in-depth features, essays, and spirited opinion pieces which contributed to the discourse. 

-Andrea Cooper profiled Josh Stein, North Carolina’s attorney general who is running against Mark Robinson to be governor (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Angely Mercado wrote an essay about Bad Bunny’s political music and a song he released to commemorate the 7-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria. (The Xylom)

-Mike Adams wrote about what’s at stake in this election. (His Substack)

Sabrina Toppa reported on how the  election outcome could impact Latino Muslims.  (Hyphen)

-Elizabeth Austin wrote about not having paid leave while her daughter had to undergo leukemia treatment. In this personal essay, Austin touches upon Governor Tim Walz’s policy preferences. (HuffPost)

-Jordan Connell wrote an op-ed about Melania Trump. (City AM)

-As a lecturer at the City of New York’s Graduate Journalism School and the Director of the Arts & Culture Reporting program, Kovie Biakolo teaches a class on writing and reporting on representation in culture and media. Her students have run a pop culture and politics blog called “The Pop-Ulsr Vote.” The students will be doing live-coverage on election night via the blog.

-Katie Cusumano shared some tips for kids on how to navigate family political disagreements. (The New York Times Magazine)

-Ellen Knoppow did swing state coverage that highlighted the perspectives of queer voters. (LGBTQ Nation)
