Abigail Reported On The Vermilion Vanguard

by | May 5, 2025

For Defector, Abigail Segel reported on the new supporters’ group for Toronto’s first pro women’s soccer team.

Segel told Study Hall, “Canada finally has a professional women’s soccer league, and I was curious about how fans have taken the opportunity to build supporter culture from the ground up. On the day of AFC Toronto’s first game, I followed the Vermilion Vanguard, the team’s new supporters’ group. I talked with the Vanguard’s leaders and members about soccer supporter culture, radical inclusion, and corporate encroachment on grassroots culture.”

Segel has written various articles for Defector
