How a Break from Booze Led Me to a Man Trying to Replace It
For Bloomberg Business Week, Kristin V. Brown reported on a man “hunting for a hangover-free buzz, something that can deliver the fun bits of drinking without all the nonsense.”
Brown told Study Hall, “ Last fall, I decided to stop drinking, mostly because mounting evidence had convinced me that alcohol was really not very good for me and I had honestly never cared that much about drinking to begin with. I was surprised to find that I actually missed it. Not booze itself, but the serendipity and mischief that can come along with a few glasses of wine. I started to wonder whether there was something else that might do for me what alcohol did — something to serve as a catalyst for conversations with strangers and impromptu dance parties and 2 am tacos. This led me to David Nutt and GABA Labs, a company that is working to invent a brand new molecule that delivers the buzz of alcohol without all the less desirable bits.”
