Erin Hale Reported On Taiwan’s Drone Program

by | October 3, 2025

For Al Jazeera, Erin Hale reported on Taiwan’s drone program and considered whether it is enough to “counter China.”

Hale told Study Hall, “Taiwan is starting up its drone program from scratch. They’ve done some serious work on it, but there are still a lot of concerning details. For one, the scale of their program is much too small to meet the demands of training, stockpiling, and actual deployment. For another, Taiwan is not Ukraine. A” Taiwan contingency” or “kinetic action” will look very different thanks to its mountainous environment and the turbulent conditions of the Taiwan Strait. Drone technology is changing in real time, and anyone designing a drone force needs to recognize that.”

Hale is based in Taipei, Taiwan.
