For Slate, Sonia Weiser reported on the phenomenon of laid off workers expressing their gratitude and appreciation for their former employers on social media platforms. While one would expect someone who just got laid off to be ready to express grievances, Weiser notes how these workers could very well be playing the long game. She writes, “Unfortunately, as anyone who has ever been laid off can tell you, jeopardizing your future employability, especially when you’re currently jobless, rarely works to your benefit.”

Weiser runs the Opportunities of the Week newsletter and writes a weekly column, “Dear Accidentally Qualified” for Study Hall. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Vulture, and The Atlantic
