–Rolling Stone is hiring a senior editor who specializes in hip-hop. Candidates should have at least five years of writing or editing experience, strong knowledge of the music business, and fluency with genres like R&B, electronic, Latin, and K-pop.
–The New York Times is hiring an editor and manager to lead a new journalism initiative called Headway, which will investigate global and national challenges to building more equitable places and societies. The editor will help hire a team to produce 10-12 magazine-quality stories per year. Candidates should have at least five years of experience managing a team from the ground up.
–The Queens Post is hiring a reporter to cover local politics, zoning, small business, crime, real estate, infrastructure projects, and other topics across the borough. Candidates should be journalism school graduates and must either live in Queens or be prepared to move to the borough.
WASHINGTON, DC
–The Hill is hiring a breaking news reporter. Candidates should have an intense interest in politics and an ability to recognize news quickly. The position requires working some nights and weekends.
–National Geographic is hiring an assistant managing editor for its History and Culture desk. The editor will work with a diverse group of editors and freelancers to produce content about historical topics and modern human rights issues. -The Washington Post is hiring for multiple positions, including an education editor and a sports reporter to cover breaking news. The education editor will lead a team in covering the long-term impact of COVID-19 on equality in the school system. The deadline to apply is August 21 for the education editor position and August 28 for the sports reporter.
TEXAS
–Texas Monthly is hiring a copy editor to vet manuscripts for both the magazine and website. Candidates should have at least two years of copy editing experience, and fluency in Spanish is preferred. The position is remote until it is safe to return to the office in Austin.
–The Dallas Morning News is hiring an editorial writer to join its Editorial Board. The writer will be responsible for the News’ opinion pages, including its editorials, political recommendations, Texan of the Year selection, and the DMN Voter Guide. Candidates should have at least four years of writing experience, and Spanish language proficiency is valued.
CALIFORNIA
–The Wall Street Journal is hiring a Los Angeles bureau chief to cover the movie, music, and gambling industries, as well as other business news in the Southwest. Candidates are not required to have prior experience covering these industries. The deadline to apply is September 15.

NORTHEAST
-Yale University is hiring a New Haven-based deputy editor and digital director to conceive of and oversee their new digital publication, The Yale Review Online. Candidates should have at least four years of experience in digital publications and familiarity with contemporary literary writing and editing.
-Resolve Philly is hiring a collaboration editor for Broke in Philly, their journalism initiative about poverty and economic mobility. The position requires growing relationships among the collaborative’s newsroom partners, guiding the project’s narrative arc, and growing their digital presence. Candidates must live in Philadelphia or be able to move to the city when it is safe to do so.
–The Philadelphia Inquirer is hiring for multiple positions, including a newsletter editor, an investigative health reporter, and a deputy editor. The newsletter editor will write for their Morning Newsletter, while both the health reporter and deputy editor will join the team at Spotlight PA, their independent newsroom that covers Pennsylvania’s Capitol and urgent statewide issues. Both positions working for Spotlight PA can be based in their Harrisburg newsroom or be done remotely from elsewhere in Pennsylvania.
-BisNow is hiring a Boston-based reporter to cover Boston’s commercial real estate industry. The position requires writing six articles per week and producing weekly newsletters and daily morning briefs. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in business journalism, and knowledge of commercial real estate is preferred.
-The Public’s Radio is hiring a Providence-based senior editor specializing in investigative journalism to cover Rhode Island and the South Coast of Massachusetts. -Spectrum Networks, a 24-hour breaking news network, is hiring for multiple positions in North Carolina, including a Raleigh-based managing editor and managing director and a Charlotte-based managing director. Candidates for all positions should have at least eight years of newsroom management experience and knowledge of local news media.
-CNN is hiring an Atlanta-based writer for their overnight and weekend breaking news team. The position requires reporting and writing breaking news stories three days a week and overseeing the work of other writers on the team two days a week. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience.
-Public Broadcasting Atlanta is hiring a digital writer to create news and feature content for WABE, the city’s NPR station. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in digital or broadcast journalism and some experience in video and audio production.
–The Jacksonville Business Journal is hiring a reporter to write about important business deals, companies, executives, and issues that affect the industry. Candidates should have at least two years of journalism experience and a strong knowledge of business principles.
–Outsider Magazine in Nashville is hiring for multiple positions, including a managing editor and staff writer. Candidates for both positions should have at least two years of relevant experience and an interest in entertainment, trending news, celebrities, and outdoor lifestyle content.

-The Cincinnati Business Courier is hiring a reporter to cover technology and health care. Candidates should have at least one year of journalism experience and knowledge of the business community in the Cincinnati region is a plus.
-Minnesota Public Radio is hiring for multiple positions in St. Paul, including a reporter and managing editor. Candidates for the reporting position should have at least two years of experience in a digital newsroom, while the managing editor should have at least a decade of experience in editing, broadcast, print, or online journalism.
-St. Louis Public Radio is hiring a science and environment reporter to write and produce news stories for radio and the web. Candidates should have at least two years of reporting experience and previous public radio reporting experience is preferred. The deadline to apply is August 27.
-Michigan Radio is hiring an Ann Arbor-based producer for Stateside, its daily current-events program. Candidates should have at least two years of experience creating stories for print, video, digital, or audio media and should be familiar with public radio news programs.

–Rest of the World is hiring a regional editor to lead coverage of Latin America. Candidates should have at least six years of journalism experience, including some history covering technology and business in the region, and fluency in Spanish is required. The location is flexible but must be within Latin America, with preference for a hub city like Mexico City, São Paulo or Buenos Aires.
-Radio Free Europe is hiring a Prague-based editor to help shape coverage of Central Asia and Russia. Candidates should have at least a decade of international journalism experience, including coverage of Central Asia. The position requires speaking Russian and proficiency in English and at least one Central Asian language is preferred.
–The Christian Science Monitor is hiring a part-time Africa correspondent. The job involves writing news analysis, feature stories of around 1,000 words, and longer pieces up to 3,000 words as cover stories for the magazine. –Business Insider is hiring an associate editor to cover the wonderful world of credit cards on their Personal Finance Insider team. Candidates should have experience covering personal finance or a related topic and be familiar with rewards credit cards, points, and miles. The position can be based in any of their US offices or be done remotely.
–Slate is hiring a culture writer to create quick analyses, essays, reported features, cover stories, and other content. Candidates should have at least five years of experience working as a journalist. The position can be based in their Brooklyn office, DC office, or be done remotely.
–The Hustle, a media company focused on business insights for an entrepreneurial-minded audience, is hiring a staff writer to cover the intersection of business and technology. Candidates should be comfortable shorter news items and longer, deeply reported features.
–TIME is hiring for multiple positions, including an executive editor to oversee coverage of the US and a correspondent to report on issues of race and identity in the US. Candidates for the executive editor position should have at least eight years of relevant editing experience, while the correspondent should have at least six years of reporting experience. Both positions can be done remotely or be based in New York.
–NBC News Digital is hiring a data journalist to conceive, report, and write stories focused around data and visuals. The position requires some overtime and weekend shifts for breaking news stories. Candidates based outside New York, LA, and Washington will be given preference.
–NK News is hiring an East Coast correspondent to cover US policy on North Korea. Candidates should have at least a year of journalism experience and a proven interest in North Korean affairs and US policy in East Asia. The reporter will work remotely with the managing editor in Seoul and can be based in Washington, DC or anywhere along the East Coast.
-NerdWallet is hiring a writer to write data-driven stories that help consumers make informed personal finance choices. –Patch is hiring a Chicago-based correspondent to cover the city’s South Side neighborhoods of Pullman, Roseland, and Washington Heights. The reporter will work on a contract with a flat weekly rate.
–The Dallas Morning News is hiring freelance reporters to cover high school football. The reporter will travel to games, input live play-by-play statistics, and write short recaps of the games. Candidates must be able to commute in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
–TIME is hiring a remote weekend editor to run TIME.com from 8:30 am to 1 pm ET on Saturday and Sunday. Candidates should have at least three years of journalism experience or at least one year of editing experience.
–Bridge Michigan is hiring a contract reporter to help cover Michigan political campaigns through the November election. Candidates should be adept at breaking news and quick-turn coverage and work well with other reporters. The deadline to apply is August 22.
-PCMag is hiring a freelance weekend news writer to do three to four stories per day of 250-300 words each. Candidates should have experience writing consumer tech news for a digital publication. The deadline to apply is August 24.
INTERNSHIPS, GRANTS, AND FELLOWSHIPS
-Insider Inc. is accepting applications for a weekend social media fellow to share Business Insider and Insider content across social platforms. The fellow will be paid $18 per hour and work full-time from Thursday to Monday.
-ProPublica is accepting applications from journalists of color for its Emerging Reporters Program. The program provides a $9,000 stipend to five college students who work at, or want to work at, college journalism outlets. The deadline to apply is August 20.
-Vox Media is accepting applications for their Vox.com Fellowship. Fellows will pitch, report, and create Vox content for Vox.com, their short-form video platform, podcasts, or their core edit team. The fellowship is salaried with benefits, full-time, remote, and lasts one year. The deadline to apply is August 21.
-openDemocracy is accepting applications for its investigative journalism fellowship working on their Tracking the Backlash project. The project focuses on investigating organized opposition to women’s and LGBTIQ rights around the world. The paid fellowship is full-time and can be done anywhere in the US. The deadline to apply is August 21.
-The Oxford American is accepting applications for their Jeff Baskin Editorial Internship. Interns will create and maintain digital content for the website, fact-check and proofread stories, and draft posts for social media. The internship can be done remotely either full-time or part-time and includes a $2,500 stipend per term. The deadline to apply is August 24.
–City Bureau is accepting applications for its Civic Reporting Fellowship. Fellows will work in teams to produce a project on a single, big-picture sociopolitical issue facing communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides. The fellowship is paid, lasts 10 weeks, and will not require any in-person assignments or meetings. The deadline to apply is August 28.
-The Gerontological Society of America is accepting applications for their Journalists in Aging Fellows Program. The program provides a stipend of $1,500 to journalists who cover issues in aging or work for media outlets serving US communities. The stipend covers a training program, and fellows must commit to one short-term story and one long-term, in-depth project. The deadline to apply is September 1.
-ACES: The Society for Editing is accepting applications for its Richard S. Holden Diversity Fellowship in collaboration with the Dow Jones News Fund. The fellowship awards up to $3,000 each to help fellows enroll in established training programs, attend seminars and conferences, or pursue other activities aimed at advancing their careers. The deadline to apply is September 15.
-The Nieman Foundation is accepting applications for remote visiting fellowships on journalism topics related to racism and public health. The fellowship provides research opportunities and specialized training to individuals. The fellowship provides a weekly stipend of $2,000, which is paid out monthly. The deadline to apply is September 25, but they may begin selecting fellows prior to the deadline.
-The Alicia Patterson Foundation is accepting applications for the Alicia Patterson fellowship. The fellowship is only open to US citizens who are full-time print journalists or photographers, or to non-US citizens who work full-time for US print publications, either in America or abroad. Freelancers are also welcome to apply. Fellows can receive $40,000 for the full-year stipend and $20,000 for the six-month fellowship. The deadline to apply is October 1.
–High Country News is accepting applications for its editorial internship and fellowship. Both programs focus on issues that impact the Western United States and can be done remotely from within that region. The internship provides a $300-per-week stipend for six months and the fellowship provides a $520-per-week stipend for up to one year of work. The deadline to apply is November 1.

CALLS FOR PITCHES FROM BIPOC WRITERS
-Alicia Renee Williams is looking to commission BIPOC and LGBTQIA writers who expand their writing portfolio as a freelance contributor. Topics are generally about the minority experience as it relates to marketing, diversity, inclusion, and tech. Starting rates range from $125-$220 depending on the pitch, topic, and word count.
