–Newsweek is hiring for multiple positions, including an night editor to oversee the overnight team and a managing editor to oversee national and business reporting. Candidates for the managing editor role should have at least 15 years of journalism experience, including a decade in management and editing, and the night editor should have at least eight years of journalism experience.
–Buzzfeed is hiring a writer to create product roundups and shopping content for their shopping section. Candidates should have previous experience at a magazine or website, or blogging experience about consumer products.
–Decrypt is hiring a journalist with experience in the cryptocurrency, blockchain, and fintech industries. Candidates should have at least two years of journalism experience and close connections in the crypto industry. The journalist will work independently and remotely, but they must be based in New York.
WASHINGTON, DC
–The Washington Times is hiring for multiple positions, including a deputy opinion editor and a metro reporter. Candidates for the opinion editor position should have at least five years of experience editing and writing opinion pieces, and the metro reporter should have at least two years of journalism experience.
-The Washington Post is hiring a food writer and recipe developer to join its Voraciously team. The position will not be eligible for remote work once they resume normal operations at their Washington office. The deadline to apply is September 8.
–The Fuller Project is hiring an editor to team with local news organizations and partner publications to produce content about the people impacted by government policies. Candidates should have at least seven years of demonstrated editing and reporting experience on US issues in a newsroom. The position is remote until their DC offices can safely reopen.
-Vox Media is hiring a producer for their Today Explained podcast. The producer will assemble research prep, write program copy, and do occasional original reporting. Candidates should have significant experience creating audio stories.
–Federal Computer Week is hiring a reporter to take on the federal workforce beat. The reporter will also cover how emerging AI technology is changing the future of work. Candidates should have at least one year of experience reporting and writing for a print or online news publication.
TEXAS
-KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas and Fort Worth, is hiring a daily news editor to coordinate and edit daily radio newscasts and digital news content. The editor will work Tuesday through Saturday. Candidates should have at least three years of journalism experience, and knowledge of North Texas is a plus.

CALIFORNIA
–The Los Angeles Times is hiring for multiple positions, including two senior producers and one producer for a new daily podcast. Candidates for both positions should have at least three years of journalism experience, and the senior producers should have at least two years of experience producing reported podcasts.
–Shondaland is hiring two LA-based staff writers to craft stories on national events, entertainment, and lifestyle. Candidates should have at least five years of writing and journalism experience.
–LAist is hiring an editor who cares deeply about local news to define their voice and coverage priorities. Candidates should have at least five years of reporting experience and two years of editing experience, including experience managing a team. The deadline to apply is September 25.
-Southern California Public Radio is hiring a Pasadena-based managing editor to supervise their team of editors and reporters. Candidates should have at least a decade of journalism experience in reporting, editing, or producing. The deadline to apply is October 9.

–The Philadelphia Tribune, an African-American newspaper, is hiring a city editor to supervise several sections of the newspaper. Candidates should have at least five years of newsroom experience as an editor, reporter, or copy editor.
–The Boston Globe is hiring a reporter to cover the New England Patriots. The reporter should be willing to work nights and weekends, cover unscheduled breaking news, and travel extensively. Candidates should have at least three years of experience covering a major professional sports franchise or major college sports program.

–Atlanta Business Chronicle is hiring a reporter to cover the city’s technology and innovation economy. Candidates should have at least two years of reporting experience, and Atlanta community experience is a plus.
–The News Service of Florida is hiring a Tallahassee-based reporter to cover Florida government and politics. The reporter will add to their daily print coverage, but some experience in broadcast journalism is preferred. Candidates should have at least five years of reporting experience.
-WRMD Telemundo 49 is hiring a Tampa-based content producer to create every element of each newscast. Candidates must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish and must be able to speak and read English.

-Cincinnati Public Radio is hiring an assistant producer for their daily talk show, Cincinnati Edition. The producer will prepare background research for the host and write promotional content for the show, website, and social media. Candidates should have some previous experience as a news reporter or producer.
–The Star Tribune is hiring for multiple positions in their Minneapolis newsroom, including an editor to lead a team covering statewide K-12 and higher education and a night reporter to cover breaking news and police and public safety stories.
-Local reporter and editor positions are also open in Quincy, Owensboro, Huntington, Crystal Lake, and Effingham.
SOUTHWEST
–The Gazette is hiring a Denver-based general assignment reporter. The reporter will work independently, but will be part of a team of journalists based in the city. Candidates should have at least five years of journalism experience.
-Searchlight New Mexico is hiring a Santa Fe-based managing editor to oversee the staff and produce hard-hitting stories about New Mexico and the Southwest. Candidates must have at least a decade of experience in journalism, a strong sense of longform narrative storytelling, and a demonstrated track record in investigative, enterprise journalism.

-USAFacts is hiring a Seattle-based managing editor to create digital content. Candidates should have at least five years of experience as a managing editor or in a similar role.

–CNN Underscored is hiring a senior writer to write and edit tech and electronics reviews and recommendations. Candidates should have at least seven years of experience writing about tech and electronics for a major publisher, and a strong interest in ecommerce. -NPR is hiring a reporter and producer for their Invisibilia podcast. Candidates should have experience creating longform stories in audio and be able to relocate to a city with NPR offices (New York, LA, Chicago, or Washington, DC) if necessary.
INTERNATIONAL
–Xtra Magazine, an LGBTQ publication, is hiring for multiple positions, including a senior health editor and a senior culture editor. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in journalism and knowledge of LGBTQ health issues and LGBTQ arts and culture, respectively. Both positions can be based in Toronto or be done remotely. The deadline to apply is September 14.
–Bloomberg News is hiring a London-based editor to develop financial and business news. Candidates should have editing experience in business and financial journalism, and knowledge of the economy, financial markets, and business. The deadline to apply is September 16.
–Hong Kong Free Press is hiring an editor to edit, rewrite, polish, and fact-check up to six news stories per day. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in an editorial role at a Hong Kong news outlet, be fluent in English, and have the right to work in Hong Kong. The deadline to apply is September 30.
REMOTE-FRIENDLY
–The Intercept is hiring a senior editor to work with reporters and freelancers on in-depth investigations, news stories, and opinion pieces. Candidates should have at least a decade of journalistic experience, including editing experience. The location is flexible.
–Quartz is hiring a reporter to cover stories about the future of finance, economics, and capitalism. The reporter can work from anywhere, and the position requires at least five years of experience.
–Slate is hiring for multiple positions, including a staff writer, an editor, and a culture writer. Candidates for the writing positions should have at least five years of experience as a writer, while the editor should have two years of editing experience. The job can be done at their offices in New York or DC once it is safe to do so, but remote applicants will be considered.
–Tribal Business News is hiring a reporter to cover business and economic news affecting Indian Country in North America. Candidates should have at least a year of journalism experience, and American Indian or Alaska Native journalists are preferred.
-Kinsa is hiring a data journalist to be the voice of healthweather.us. The journalist will help guide the US’s COVID-19 detection and response efforts by analyzing datasets created by their network of smart thermometers and mobile apps. Candidates should have experience writing about, reporting on, and analyzing data to create stories.
FREELANCE AND TEMPORARY GIGS
–W Magazine is hiring a part-time fashion news writer to cover celebrity style and the fashion industry. Experience covering beauty news is a plus, but not required. The position is remote and “pay is competitive.”
–Nature is hiring a temporary assistant editor to help commission and edit opinion pieces. The contract is for six months, and the editor can be based in London, Shanghai, New York, or Washington, DC. The deadline to apply is September 10.
–The Globe and Mail is hiring a Toronto-based reporter to join the National desk for a 12-month contract. Candidates should have experience covering daily news assignments, and the ability to speak and read in French is preferred.
–The Fuller Project is hiring a temporary global editor to manage global coverage around issues that affect women. Candidates should have at least six years of editing and reporting experience on global issues in a newsroom, and they should be based in or near the Central European time zone. The position will last from October 1, 2020 to April 1, 2021 and can be done remotely.
-The Report, a new daily newsletter, is hiring a freelance writer to craft news articles about business, tech, and finance. Candidates should have experience in journalism, the financial industry, or the media industry.
–Belt Magazine, a publication about the Rust Belt and Midwest, is hiring a part-time engagement editor to help the publication understand and expand their audience. Candidates can work remotely, but must live in the Rust Belt. The rate is $25 per hour for 10-15 hours of work per week.
INTERNSHIPS, GRANTS, AND FELLOWSHIPS
-The Washington Monthly is accepting applications for their fall internship in Washington, DC. Interns will research and fact-check stories, pitch their own stories for the site, and help manage the social media accounts. The internship is paid, part-time, and they will do their best to accommodate a second job, if necessary.
–CNN is accepting applications for its digital news internship on the trends and culture team. Interns will be “paid a competitive wage based on team/bureau location,” and the internship will be fully remote. The internship will also provide a laptop for the duration of the program.
–Men’s Health Magazine is accepting applications for its remote editorial fellowship. The fellow will pitch, write, report, and produce digital stories and assist editors with larger features. The rate is $15 per hour and fellows will be expected to work 40 hours per week for six months.
-Pineapple Street Studios, a podcast company, is accepting applications for two remote, four-month paid internships. The internship will run from October 5 to January 29. Interns should have some basic audio editing experience in Hindenburg, Pro Tools, or another DAW, but it isn’t required. The deadline to apply is September 4.
-The International Center for Journalists is accepting applications for their Andrew M. Guthrie IJNet Internship program. Interns will assist the International Journalists’ Network staff with writing content and contribute their own writing for publication on IJNet.org. The internship is paid, will require 35 hours per week of work, and lasts three months. The deadline to apply is September 7.
-Vermont Public Radio is accepting applications for its Vermont Edition internship. The intern will pitch and develop show topics and produce their own segments. The rate is $12 per hour, and interns are expected to work 12 hours per week. The deadline to apply for the internship is September 14.
-The Fund for Investigative Journalism is accepting applications from journalists who want to work on investigative stories that uncover wrongdoing in the public and private sectors. Grants average $5,000, but can go as high as $10,000 to cover expenses and small stipends. Non-US story proposals are accepted, but must come from US-based reporters; have a strong US angle involving American citizens, government or business; and must be published in a US media outlet in English. The deadline to apply is September 14.
-ACES: The Society for Editing is accepting applications for its Richard S. Holden Diversity Fellowship in collaboration with the Dow Jones News Fund. The fellowship awards up to $3,000 to help fellows enroll in established training programs, attend seminars and conferences, or pursue other activities aimed at advancing their careers. The deadline to apply is September 15.
–The Boston Globe is accepting applications for its Spotlight Investigative Journalism Fellowship. The fellowship awards up to $100,000 to work on in-depth research and reporting projects. Fellows this year can be individual freelance reporters or newsrooms and multi-reporter teams. The deadline to apply is September 24.
-The Nieman Foundation is accepting applications for remote visiting fellowships on journalism topics related to racism and public health. The fellowship provides research opportunities and specialized training to individuals. The fellowship provides a weekly stipend of $2,000, which is paid out monthly. The deadline to apply is September 25, but they may begin selecting fellows prior to the deadline.
-The Alicia Patterson Foundation is accepting applications for the Alicia Patterson fellowship. The fellowship is only open to US citizens who are full-time print journalists or photographers, or to non-US citizens who work full-time for US print publications, either in America or abroad. Freelancers are also welcome to apply. Fellows can receive $40,000 for the full-year fellowship and $20,000 for the six-month fellowship. The deadline to apply is October 1.
-The Washington Post is accepting applications for its Summer 2021 internship program. Interns can choose from a variety of positions, including reporting, visual journalism, multiplatform editing, audio production, and more. The deadline to apply is October 7.
–The Baltimore Sun is accepting applications for its paid Summer 2021 Mary J. Corey Journalism Internship. Candidates should have extensive journalism experience, either as a student journalist or as an intern in a professional newsroom. Interns will be paid $575 per week and receive a $1,000 housing stipend. The deadline to apply is October 15.
–The Economist is accepting applications for two paid fellowships. The fellows will spend six months writing articles about politics and policy in the US. The fellow can be based in their New York or Washington, DC office, and the monthly remuneration is about $3,000. The deadline to apply is October 30.

–City Metric is looking for pitches about anything and everything that is shaping the world’s cities. Their rates are “competitive with other digital-only magazines.” Send pitches to [email protected].
–5280 Magazine is looking for pitches about culture, dining, politics, and living well in Denver, Colorado. Send pitches to [email protected].
–The Temper is looking for pitches from writers of color about co-occurring disorders (for example, substance-use disorder and mental illness). The rate is $100 per piece. See their pitch guide for info on where to pitch.
