–Investopedia is hiring freelance finance news writers to join their team of financial experts. Candidates should have previous experience publishing financial content and knowledge of insurance, credit cards, politics, money, cryptocurrency, banking, and economics.
-Environmental Defense Fund is hiring a digital writer on a one-year contract. Candidates should have at least five years of writing and editing experience, and at least three years of experience in a marketing or fundraising-driven environment. The position can be done remotely, but they prefer candidates who can be based in New York, Boston, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.
–FactCheck.org is hiring a Philadelphia-based journalist fluent in Spanish and English on a one-year contract. The journalist will work on a grant-funded project that aims to counter online health and vaccine misinformation targeting Latinx communities. Candidates should have at least three years of professional experience writing for audiences in both English and Spanish.
–Texas Monthly is hiring for multiple positions, including a freelance digital copy editor and a contract writer to report on Texas politics and government, with a particular focus on the Eighty-seventh Texas Legislature. The copy editor position requires working 30 hours per week for one year, and the writer position will run through May 2021.
–The White Review is hiring an editor to outline a new editorial direction for the magazine. The editorship will be on a fixed, two-year term working three days a week, and is open to individual and joint applications. For individual applicants, the position will pay £25,000 pro-rata (about $32,870), while group applications will need to submit a proposal that details how responsibilities and the salary will be shared. It’s unclear if the rate is per year or for the entire contract. The deadline to apply is November 26.
GRANTS AND FELLOWSHIPS
-The Sidney Hillman Foundation is accepting applications for its 2021 Hillman Prizes for Journalism. The prize honors excellence in investigative journalism and commentary. Entries must have been published or broadcast in 2020 and been made widely available in the US. Hillman Prize winners will be awarded a $5,000 honorarium. The deadline to apply is January 30.
-Disabled Writers is accepting applications for limited scholarships to Poynter’s NewsU journalism training courses. The scholarships are restricted to freelance journalists who are members of the disability community, but you do not need to cover disability to be considered. The deadline to apply is November 30.
–Esquire is accepting applications for a paid editorial fellow. Fellows will write, research, and produce stories. The fellowship pays $15 per hour and requires working 40 hours per week. The fellowship may move to their offices, so the ideal candidate will be based in New York.
–Harpers Bazaar is accepting applications for its paid six-month and one-year editorial fellowships. Fellows will cover fashion, beauty, politics, culture, and celebrity news, with an emphasis on the royal family. The fellowship pays $15 per hour and requires 40 hours of work per week. The program will begin remotely in December.
–The New York Times is accepting applications for its London-based fellowship program. Fellows will cover breaking news in the UK and Europe to build the skills necessary to be a foreign correspondent. Candidates should have some journalism experience, as well as an interest in international reporting. Applicants from around the world are welcome to apply, but fellows must be eligible to work in the UK.
–Business Insider is accepting applications for several paid, US-based fellowships. Fellows can work for their buying guide team, markets team, home and kitchen review team, personal finance review team, editorial partnerships team, subscription strategy team, and freelance health editorial team. All fellowships are full-time and remote. The program lasts for six months and pays $18 per hour. The deadline to apply to the editorial partnerships, subscription strategy, home and kitchen review, and personal finance review fellowships is November 30.
–Politico is accepting applications for its paid, yearlong fellowship program in Washington, DC. Fellows will work with teams across their newsroom covering the White House, Congress, state capitals, and policy issues. Candidates should have at least two years of newsroom experience related to policy, analysis, or journalism. The total compensation is $60,000 plus benefits. The deadline to apply is November 30.
-Noor Images is accepting applications for its one-year Stanley Greene Legacy Prize and Fellowship. The fellowship aims to support the work and professional aspirations of underrepresented photojournalists from the US. Fellows will receive training, grant-writing support, a $10,000 fellowship prize, and be compensated for travel expenses for field reporting or research up to $2,500. The deadline to apply is December 1.
–The New York TImes is accepting applications to its fellowship program in New York. Fellows can apply to work in a variety of roles, including reporting; photography; arts criticism; data reporting on the Upshot team; editing for the Op-Ed section; editing their digital news designs; editorial design for print; and investigative reporting for their Video department. The deadline to apply for all roles is December 9.
–The Wall Street Journal is accepting applications for its paid art criticism fellowship. Fellows will work in the Arts in Review section commissioning reviews, researching, fact-checking, and editing content. The internship lasts 10 weeks and may be remote if it is not safe to return to their New York offices by June. The deadline to apply is December 13.
-The American Political Science Association is accepting applications for its nine-month Congressional Fellowship for Journalists. Fellows will serve on a congressional staff to gain hands-on experience in Congress. The fellowship pays a stipend of $54,000 plus a travel allowance. Candidates should have at least two years of experience in writing, reporting, editing, producing, or directing. The deadline to apply is December 16.
-The Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute is accepting applications for its 2021 fellowship program. This year’s fellowship projects address the increasing challenges in covering climate change, unpublishing, harassment of marginalized journalists, and other topics. Fellows who choose to work from their headquarters in Columbia, Missouri will receive an $80,000 stipend. Fellows who work from any location around the world or within a US newsroom will receive a $20,000 stipend. The deadline to apply is December 18.
-NPR is accepting applications for their one-year, DC-based Kroc Fellowship. Fellows will receive hands-on training in audio and digital journalism, including writing, reporting, producing, and editing. Applicants must be recent graduates, but previous journalism experience is not required. Fellows are paid a stipend of more than $45,000 and receive benefits, including a paid vacation. Applications are accepted from October 15 to December 31.
INTERNSHIPS
–The Los Angeles Times is accepting applications for its paid, remote Creative Technologist internship. Interns will work with the newsroom and team up with other interns on prototypes that change the way news is produced. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. The deadline to apply is November 22.
–Audubon Magazine is accepting applications for its paid, remote winter internship. Interns will pitch and write articles for print and web, and assist with research, story development, and fact checking. The internship pays $15 per hour, and interns are expected to work up to 35 hours per week for 16 weeks.
-The Emma Bowen Foundation is accepting applications for its paid summer 2021 internship program for students of color. Interns in the content track will learn about production, social media, digital media, and broadcast and online journalism. There is no set deadline to apply, but they recommend that students apply as soon as possible.
-KQED is accepting applications for their paid arts and culture editorial internship. Interns will report and write weekly event picks, news briefs, and shorter breaking stories. They will also be strongly encouraged to file at least one in-depth, feature length story. They don’t list geographic requirements, but they want someone with “deep knowledge of the Bay Area arts scene.”
–The News & Observer is accepting applications for its paid summer 2021 internship in Raleigh, NC. Interns are assigned an editor and mentor, and they will write stories, shoot photos and videos, and create social media content. Interns will be paid $500 per week, and the internship lasts 10 weeks. The deadline to apply is November 30.
–The New York Times is accepting applications for their free Student Journalism Institute. The intensive short-term program is for people who are either college students at a historically Black colleges or universities or college students who are also members of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), or the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA). The program will be hosted virtually so that anyone from around the US can participate. The deadline to apply is December 7.
–High Country News is accepting applications for its paid internship program. Interns will develop, report, and write two articles per month about the Western United States, and interns will work with editors to learn how to perform interviews, frame a story, and more. The internship pays a $600 bi-weekly stipend for interns working remotely from within the Western United States; an additional $125 bi-weekly work-from-home allowance; and a one-time signing bonus of $500 to help with IT equipment. Interns can be based anywhere in the Western region of the US. The deadline to apply for the summer internship is March 15.

–Mashable is hiring a tech reporter to report on “anything and everything happening in our digital lives.” Candidates should have at least four years of experience writing on technology or internet culture. The position would ideally be based in New York, but they will consider remote applicants.
–The Verge is hiring an editorial director to launch an interview show and relaunch their flagship show, The Vergecast. Candidates should have experience in technology journalism and as the showrunner or editorial lead for a successful technology podcast or broadcast news program.
–Insider Inc is hiring a senior news editor to edit breaking news and narrative feature stories. Candidates should have previous experience working in news, and experience with public records and filing successful FOIA requests is preferred.
–NBC News and MSNBC are hiring a manager for their Standards and Practices team to help maintain the reputation and journalistic integrity of the news organization. Candidates should have at least six years of experience in the news industry. The position can be based in New York or be done remotely.

-The Washington Post is hiring a reporter to cover the video game industry and esports. Candidates should have at least five years of reporting experience, a deep familiarity with Internet culture, and sources in the world of gaming.
–The Los Angeles Times is hiring a deputy bureau chief to lead coverage of the federal government on their 30-person bureau team. Candidates should have at least a decade of journalism experience, including at least five years of editing or management experience.
-NPR is hiring for multiple positions, including a senior editor for their Planet Money program and a producer for their All Things Considered program. Candidates for the senior editor position should have proven knowledge of business and economic issues. Candidates for the producer positions should have at least three years of experience as a reporter, editor, or producer.
–US News and World Report is hiring a money editor to cover credit cards, stocks, loans, funds, and other investable assets. Candidates should have at least three years of professional editing experience, and experience covering investing advice, stocks, or funds is preferred.
-ProPublica is hiring an investigative reporter to cover healthcare. Candidates should have a track record of aggressive reporting on government, but previous investigative reporting experience is not necessary. The deadline to apply is November 22.

-The Dallas Observer is hiring a news editor to lead and manage its reporting team. Candidates should have at least three years of editorial management experience and the temperament to supervise and motivate reporters.
