Are you new here?

Welcome to Study Hall! We’re glad you’re here. Study Hall is a media newsletter and online network for media workers seeking editor contacts, writing opportunities, insider gossip, and a community of freelance creatives.

GETTING STARTED

-As soon as you subscribe, you’ll have access to Study Hall’s website — articles, how-tos, and more. For everything else, you’ll have to fill out our new user survey, which helps us get you added to our system. If you’re a Listserv subscriber, please fill out this survey. If you’re a Network subscriber, please fill out this one

-Study Hall is no longer using Patreon since we launched our own website in 2020. If you have a Patreon account, please delete your pledge on Patreon

-We highly recommend you read our user guide before posting anything on the Listserv, Slack, or anywhere else.

-Please also review our Terms of Service, FAQs, and our full Privacy Policy.

NEWSLETTERS

-Subscribers of all tiers receive our weekly media and opportunities newsletters straight to your inbox. If you don’t see them, please email us at [email protected].

-Our weekly digest of media news and gossip goes out via email every Monday, and our weekly Opportunities digest goes out every Wednesday. You can read all current and past editions of both newsletters on our website

HOW TO USE THE LISTSERV

-Subscribers at the Listserv level receive access to the Study Hall Listserv, as well as our Digest and Opportunities newsletters, and access to paywalled editorial.

-First and foremost, you’ll have to fill out our new user survey, which helps us get you added to our system.

-To email all members of the listserv, send your message to [email protected]. Please take a look at our archive of listserv discussions to see if your question has already been answered.

-You can choose how many emails to receive. By default Google will send you every email, but you can also choose to receive none, or a daily or weekly rundown of all discussions. Change those settings by going to groups.google.com.

-For questions about anything else, tips you don’t want your name attached to, etc., please email [email protected].

-You’ll receive email notifications when you’ve been added to everything. If you’ve waited longer than a week for access to any of our services, please email administrator Erin Corbett at [email protected].

GETTING ON THE NETWORK AND SLACK

-Subscribers at the Network and Media Workers of Color levels receive access to the Study Hall Listserv, our Digest and Opportunities newsletters, paywalled editorial, Slack, our editors database, grants and fellowships database, and more.

-First and foremost, you’ll have to fill out our new user survey, which helps us get you added to our system.

-After filling out the survey, subscribers will be added to the Slack and Network Google Group. The Google Group will give you access to Network-level documents, but is not available for forum discussions. As long as you can access Network-level documents, you’re all set.

-Our editor database, helpful pitch guides, financial documents, book proposal examples and more can be found in Google Drive and on our website

-You’ll receive email notifications when you’ve been added to everything. If you’ve waited longer than a week for access to any of our services, please email administrator Erin Corbett at [email protected]

TRANSCRIBER DATABASE

-Anyone subscribed at the Listserv and higher tiers can be added as a transcriber to the Study Hall transcriber database. First, buy a subscription on our website. Then, send an email to [email protected].

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

-PRIVACY: Everything emailed by members of the Study Hall Listserv is said in confidence, not to be tweeted, forwarded, or otherwise put on record outside of the listserv’s bounds. We want this to be a safe space to criticize the media, speak our minds, etc. However, please feel free to share things from the weekly official Digest, as that is written more or less for public consumption (and helps us promote this listserv to more people).

-ZERO TOLERANCE: This is a community space. If you say anything racist, sexist, or otherwise inappropriate, you will be banned immediately.
