Sam Eifling will host an AMA on our General Slack channel next Friday, April 19, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. He will discuss starting a podcast project, pitching it, and the research process.
Eifling has reported for the New Republic, the New York Times, the AP, Slate, Vice, Politico, Sports Illustrated, Deadspin, Thrillist, and the upcoming feature documentary “Bribe, Inc.” He has co-created two limited podcast series: “Trust Us,” about a shady offshore financial firm; and “Hold Fast: The Unadulterated Story of the World’s Most Scandalous Website,” an Audible Original about the rise and fall of Backpage.com.
His honors include a Sigma Delta Chi for newspaper feature writing; a Fund for Investigative Journalism reporting grant; and a staff Peabody Award as a news producer on “Netflix’s Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.” A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of British Columbia, he lives in Brooklyn.

NEW: In September, Linda Baird saw in Study Hall that the Google News Initiative was recruiting for its Pre-launch Lab program to support the launch of local independent news sites. Linda was accepted to the 2023 cohort and learned all about the business side of publishing. Through the program, she founded EdInk, a newsletter focused on K-12 education in Columbus, Ohio. She adds that the program was an awesome experience.
