–Majuscule is hiring a freelance digital marketer for a three-month contract to create a brand style guide; design, write, and post on-brand social media content; and other tasks. –The California Sun is hiring a contributor to write content that runs between 50-150 words for their newsletter. The rate is $0.50 per word, and contributors can contribute several items per week. Candidates can work remotely but must have knowledge of daily news events across California.
-The Energy News Network is hiring a writer for their daily Southeast Energy News email newsletter. Candidates should be located in the Southeast or have direct knowledge of the region. –Serious Eats is hiring for multiple positions, including a features editor and a recipe editor. Candidates for the recipe editor positions should have at least two years of previous experience in recipe editing, test kitchen work, or recipe development. -The Washington Post is hiring a deputy editor for their women-centric vertical, The Lily. The editor will work with staff reporters on news and longer pieces across their social media platforms, including their Lily Lines newsletter. The deadline to apply is September 25.
–National Geographic is hiring for multiple positions on their Overheard podcast team, including a producer and a senior producer. Candidates for the producer position should have at least five years of professional audio or podcast experience, and the senior producer should have eight years of experience.
-The Pulitzer Center is hiring an environment investigations editor to recruit and coordinate a network of journalists and news organizations to cover deforestation and forest degradation around the world. The position is remote, but candidates will need to work at least part of the week in the Washington, DC office once it is safe to do so.
–Bloomberg Government is hiring a content editor who “has a knack for Excel, interest in federal government data, and a legit eye for design.” Candidates should have the curiosity and news judgment to unpack complicated legal and government actions and demonstrate excellent editing, writing and design skills.
–E&E News is hiring a reporter to cover the chemical industry. The reporter will break stories on regulatory agencies, Congress, and watchdog groups, and write features on how chemicals affect our lives and health.
CALIFORNIA
-The Los Angeles Times is hiring a reporter to write about Black life in Southern California. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of reporting experience and must have a deep interest in the diverse array of Black communities in the region.
-The Orange County Register is hiring a reporter to engage in watchdog local government coverage in three of four cities across Orange County. Candidates should have some experience in breaking news, politics, features, or enterprise reporting. The position can be permanently done remotely, but the reporter must live in the area.

–NBC Sports Digital is hiring a Stamford-based news desk producer to produce and edit content on NBCSports.com. Candidates should have at least two years of experience working in digital media or a newsroom.

–The Times-Picayune / New Orleans Advocate is hiring a reporter to cover the Greater New Orleans area. Candidates should have thorough knowledge of libel laws, public documents, government finances, courts, police, and elections.
-The Tampa Bay Times is hiring a multimedia producer to expand their digital sports coverage. The producer will create sports newsletters, produce live video streams with game and breaking news analysis, and other sporty things. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in design, production, writing, or video.
-The Jacksonville Business Journal is hiring a reporter to cover the city’s business community. Candidates should have at least two years of journalism experience and a strong knowledge of business principles.

-The USA TODAY Network is hiring a criminal justice reporter to cover the Midwest. The reporter will be responsible for coverage across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, so candidates should be based somewhere in this region.
-The Cincinnati Business Courier is hiring a reporter to cover technology and healthcare. Candidates should have at least one year of journalism experience, and knowledge of the city’s business community is a plus.
–Finance and Commerce is hiring a Minneapolis-based economic development reporter to cover commercial real estate, construction, and development. –Business Insider is hiring a London-based associate tech editor. Candidates should have proven editing skills and experience covering the tech industry in a fast-paced newsroom.
–Insider is hiring a London-based deputy editor to lead their Inside Life team. The editor will oversee a team of reporters and editors covering lifestyle, entertainment, health, and digital culture. Candidates should have an editorial background and experience managing a staff.
–Hong Kong Free Press is hiring an editor to edit, rewrite, polish, and fact-check up to six news stories per day. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in an editorial role at a Hong Kong news outlet, be fluent in English, and have the right to work in Hong Kong. The deadline to apply is September 30.
FELLOWSHIPS
–The Boston Globe is accepting applications for its Spotlight Investigative Journalism Fellowship. The fellowship awards up to $100,000 to work on in-depth research and reporting projects. Fellows this year can be individual freelance reporters or newsrooms and multi-reporter teams. The deadline to apply is September 24.
-The Nieman Foundation is accepting applications for remote visiting fellowships on journalism topics related to racism and public health. The fellowship provides research opportunities and specialized training to individuals. The fellowship provides a weekly stipend of $2,000, which is paid out monthly. The deadline to apply is September 25, but they may begin selecting fellows prior to the deadline.
-The Association of LGBTQ Journalists is accepting applications for their AARP Freelance Fellowship. The fellowship pays for registration costs to attend the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists Virtual Convention. Fellows do not need to be a member of NLGJA to apply. The deadline to apply is October 1.
-The Alicia Patterson Foundation is accepting applications for the Alicia Patterson fellowship. The fellowship is only open to US citizens who are full-time print journalists or photographers, or to non-US citizens who work full-time for US print publications, either in America or abroad. Freelancers are also welcome to apply. Fellows can receive $40,000 for the full-year fellowship and $20,000 for the six-month fellowship. The deadline to apply is October 1.
–The Texas Tribune is accepting applications for its paid 2021 fellowships in Austin. Fellows can focus on data visuals, engagement, engineering, events, marketing and communications, multimedia, photography, and reporting. There is also a reporting fellowship in Washington, DC. The deadline for the spring 2021 program is October 2, and the deadline for the summer 2021 program is October 30.
-WBUR is accepting applications for its yearlong, Boston-based Newsroom Fellowship. Fellows will be embedded in a different part of the newsroom every three months to learn about newscasts, live broadcast, digital media, and reporting. The salary for the fellowship is $50,000. The deadline to apply is October 9.
-Investigative Reporters and Editors is accepting applications for their Journalist of Color Investigative Reporting Fellowship. The yearlong program is open to US journalists of color with at least three years of post-college work experience. The deadline to apply is October 12.
–The Economist is accepting applications for two paid fellowships. The fellows will spend six months writing articles about politics and policy in the US. The fellow will be based in either their New York or Washington, DC office, and the monthly remuneration is about $3,000. The deadline to apply is October 30.
-Noor Images is accepting applications for its one-year Stanley Greene Legacy Prize and Fellowship. The fellowship aims to support the work and professional aspirations of underrepresented photojournalists from the US. Fellows will receive training, grant-writing support, a $10,000 fellowship prize, and be compensated for travel expenses for field reporting or research up to $2,500. The deadline to apply is December 1.
INTERNSHIPS
–The Economist is accepting applications for their paid internship. The internship pays £2,000 per month, and interns can either work remotely or go into the newsroom in London. Interns will primarily work for the digital team, but will be able to offer contributions to other departments, including the print edition. The deadline to apply is September 30.
-The Washington Post is accepting applications for its summer 2021 internship program. Interns can choose from a variety of positions, including reporting, visual journalism, multiplatform editing, audio production, and more. The deadline to apply is October 7.
–The Oregonian is accepting applications for its paid, 10-week summer internship in Portland. Interns will be part of the news team and have their work showcased online and in print. There is also a three-month Crime and Public Safety News Reporting Fellowship for post-graduate reporters. The fellowship pays $15 per hour, and fellows are expected to work 40 hours per week. The deadline to apply for both programs is October 14.
–The Baltimore Sun is accepting applications for its paid summer 2021 Mary J. Corey Journalism Internship. Candidates should have extensive journalism experience, either as a student journalist or as an intern in a professional newsroom. Interns will be paid $575 per week and receive a $1,000 housing stipend. The deadline to apply is October 15.
–The South Florida Sun Sentinel is accepting applications for its paid 2021 internship program. Interns can focus on news, entertainment and sports reporting, multimedia and data reporting, or photo and video journalism. Interns must have use of a car, but will be reimbursed for mileage, tolls, and parking. The deadline to apply is October 15.
-The Wall Street Journal is accepting applications for its US Reporting Internship for summer 2021. The 10-week paid internship program can be based in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Washington, DC. Interns are paid $900 per week. The deadline to apply is October 30.
–The Dallas Morning News is accepting applications for its 2021 internship program. Interns will report, write, photograph, and edit stories for publication in print and online under their own bylines. The internship pays $15 per hour, and interns are expected to work 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks. The deadline to apply is October 30.
-The Austin American-Statesman is accepting applications for their Austin-based spring and summer internships. The spring internship pays $8 per hour for up to 180 hours per semester, while the summer internship pays $450 per week for 11 weeks. The deadline to apply for both programs is October 31.
–The Boston Globe is accepting applications for their summer internship. Most interns will work as general assignment reporters in the news department, but others will be hired for the sports, living and art, and business departments. The internship is full-time for twelve weeks and pays a weekly wage. The deadline to apply is November 1.
–The Tampa Bay Times is accepting applications for their summer internship. Interns will work as news reporters, sports reporters, photographers, copy editors, or engagement producers. The internship pays $500 per week, and interns are expected to work 40 hours per week. The deadline to apply is November 1.
–The Virginian-Pilot is accepting applications for its summer 2021 internship program. Interns can focus on reporting, audience engagement, data journalism, or videography and photography. The deadline to apply is November 13.
–The American Prospect is accepting applications for its winter-spring internship. Interns will assist with research, fact-checking, and social media, and contribute editorially. The internship can be done full- or part-time, offers a stipend of $70 per day, and can be done remotely or at their office in Washington, DC when they open again. The deadline to apply is November 30.
EVENTS
-Tim Herrera is hosting a free panel on September 20 on what it’s like to be an investigative journalist. The panel will include Washington Post reporter Nicole Dungca, The Tampa Bay Times reporter Adam Playford, and freelance journalist Jack Herrera.
-The Canadian Journalism Foundation is hosting a free panel on September 24 on biases in coverage of BIPOC. The panelists include Nana aba Duncan, host of CBC Radio One’s Podcast Playlist and Fresh Air; Quartz reporter Karen K. Ho; and CVC Vancouver journalist Angela Sterritt.
GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS
-The Online News Association is accepting applications for its scholarship to attend their virtual journalism festival, ONA20 Everywhere, in October. There are scholarships for diversity and inclusion, financial hardship, local news, and student and new professionals. The deadline to apply is September 17.
-Investigate Europe is accepting applications for a research grant to a journalist who can work with the team on their next investigation. Candidates should preferably have a background in economic and political journalism. The monthly grant amount is €1,500, and it lasts three months. The deadline to apply is September 20.
-The Committee to Protect Journalists is accepting applications for their US Press Freedom Accountability Project. The initiative provides grants that range from $2,000-$5,000 for newsrooms reporting on threats to journalists in the US, with priority given to pieces that can be published in one to three months. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis, and grants will be awarded starting October 1.
