$10,000 PROTOTIPE X STUDY HALL GRANT PROGRAM
►Have a story that’s made for the big (or small screen)? Good news! We’ve partnered with Prototipe Media, a Hollywood-based production company, to launch our biggest grant program yet. We’ll be awarding 10 micro-grants of $1,000 exclusively to Study Hall members. Your submission can be as short or long as you want, and it can be pulled from your archives or a story you’re currently working on – there’s no hard and fast rule.

Save The Date: Study Hall AMA with Rebecca Leib
Study Hall is hosting an AMA with Rebecca Leib on our General Slack channel on February 23 at 10 AM PST. She will answer questions about podcasting, culture journalism, and her career.
Leib is a writer, comedian, producer, and cultural journalist whose writing has been featured in Reductress, VICE, LAist, KCRW, Betches, and on Netflix, Nickelodeon, NatGeo, NBC, Disney, Investigation Discovery, The History Channel, Oxygen, CBS, and IHeartRadio Podcasts. Most recently, she wrote and produced Oxygen’s Final Moments season 2, Sin City Murders and Sins of the South, to premiere. in 2024. You can also listen to her on her Vanderpump Rules recap podcast, Vanderpodcalypse Now, and strange history and culture podcast Ghost Town, which was #2 on the Apple Podcast comedy charts and #15 on the Apple Podcast top charts.
GENERAL SUBMISSIONS
NEW: -The Rumpus is open for submissions of both general essays and content for their ENOUGH section, “a dedicated space for work by women and non-binary people who engage with rape culture, sexual assault, and domestic violence.” Essays can be up to 4,000 words in length, and “in addition to personal narrative-driven essays, [they] are interested in non-traditional forms of nonfiction.” Content for ENOUGH includes “personal essays, critical essays, poetry, comics, and hybrid work.” Contributors will receive a small honorarium (exact amount to be determined.) There is no entry fee. See the submission page for more info and to apply. The application deadline for both sections is February 29.
NEW: –Adi Magazine is looking for submissions of short fiction about “the past, present, and future of disobedience,” including “orthodoxies of all kinds.” Send them work that “satirizes, fabulizes, and fantasizes, that disturbs, beguiles, moves, challenges, surprises, and ignites.” The rate is $200 for flash fiction under 1,000 words and $500 for full-length stories up to 5,000 words. NEW: -IGI Global opened a call for chapters for a new book, Building Inclusive Leadership Beyond the Gender Binary, which “serves as a platform for leaders across diverse professions and gender identities to share their experiences with the gender binary and leadership.” Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a chapter proposal of 1,000-2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of their proposed chapter. Note: “There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication.” The submission deadline is March 3.
NEW: –American Chordata, a literary and arts magazine based out of Brooklyn, NY, is accepting submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and translation. They “charge a reading fee of $3 per submission, all of which goes toward the payment of honorariums.” Contributors will receive $30 for works of three pages or fewer, and $50 for works longer than three pages. NEW: –AGNI, a literary magazine housed at Boston University, is accepting submissions of poetry and prose that “resist ideas about what a certain kind of writing ‘should do.’” They “pay $20 per printed (or printed-out) page for accepted prose, and $40 per page for accepted poetry, up to a maximum of $300.” See our Opportunity Finder listing for more info and submit through their pitch guide. NEW: -Newfest is accepting applications for its 2024 New Voices Filmmaker Grant. “The Grant seeks to support underrepresented voices in the film industry, and provides a $25,000 unrestricted grant to 4 emerging directors.” See our Opportunity Finder listing for more info and apply through the submission page by this Thursday, February 22. -Graywolf Press is accepting submissions for its 2024 Graywolf Nonfiction Prize. “A $20,000 advance and publication by Graywolf Press will be awarded to the most promising and innovative literary nonfiction project by a writer not yet established in the genre.” The winning author will also receive a $2,000 stipend intended to support the competition of their project. NEW: -The Bogliasco Foundation is accepting applications for its Spring 2025 Fellowship program. The program awards around 60 fellowships to “artists and scholars in the various disciplines of the Arts and Humanities (Archaeology, Architecture, Classics, Dance, Film/Video, History, Landscape Architecture, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Theater, and Visual Arts) per year.” The program covers “room and board but does not provide a travel or living stipend.” There is a $30 application fee, and the application deadline is March 1.
FELLOWSHIPS + RESIDENCIES
NEW: -The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts is accepting applications for its residency program in Nebraska City, NE. The program “awards up to seventy juried residencies per year to established and emerging visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world. NEW: -The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is accepting applications for its Literature Fellowships in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) and poetry. The program offers $25,000 to “published creative writers that enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement.” See our Opportunity Finder listing or the awards page for more info, including how to apply. The application deadline is March 13.
NEW: -BRIClab is accepting applications for its multi-disciplinary residency program. The program was “created to advance opportunities for visual artists and media makers” and is split into three tracks: Contemporary Art, Film + TV, and Video Art. All residents receive a $2,500 stipend, mentorship, skills-based learning and professional development, and documentation of their work. The application deadline is March 14.
NEW: -The Pacific Northwest Museum of Queer Art, a mobile museum based in Portland, OR, is accepting applications for its week-long residency program. “The residency takes place in our shared creative studio. Artists have access to one small private bedroom with a twin bed, a shared bathroom, and a shared kitchenette.” They “ask that you acknowledge Future Prairie in the final product of the work created during your stay and take the time to fill out an exit interview and that “any publication, exhibit, or performance resulting from the residency must provide credit to Future Prairie.”
OPEN QUERIES
NEW: -Looking Glass Literary & Media’s associate agent, Antoinëtte Van Sluytman, is open to queries on “all genres of speculative fiction, specifically cosmic horror, graphic novels, dark fantasy, epic fantasy, sci-fi, dark academia, in addition to historical fiction.” She is particularly interested in “Those looking to push boundaries, break barriers, and rewrite paradigms with stories that celebrate heritage and culture through limitless imagination.” She is specifically not interested in “military fiction or fae/vampire/witch/mecha/ai/elemental magic fantasy.” Submit through her query manager.
NEW: -Creative Media Agency’s associate agent, Laurie Dennison, is open to queries of women’s fiction, romance, domestic suspense/thriller, YA, narrative nonfiction, and more. She especially loves “upmarket writing, complex characters, and immersive settings. I enjoy upbeat, positive stories but don’t shy away from darker themes.” Send queries to [email protected] with “query” and Laurie’s name in the subject line.
NEW: -Westwood Creative Artists’ literary agent, Emmy Nordstrom Higdon, is open to queries “across age categories and genres, including graphic and illustrated works in both fiction and non-fiction.” She is specifically not seeking “romantasy”; she prioritizes “queries from trans and/or non-binary, Black and/or BIPOC, and/or disabled authors.” Send submissions to [email protected].
NEW: -Triangle House’s literary agent, Kima Jones, is open to queries and is “particularly interested in representing good ass novels, food histories, short story collections, Black music biographies, and Black music books.” She is also interested in YA, but “it has to be really good.” Submit through her query manager.
NEW: -Storm Literary Agency’s associate literary agent, Jenna Satterhwaite, will be open to queries starting this Friday. She is particularly interested in “romantasy,” “rom-coms with a high concept situation that can be summarized quickly,” “eartfelt and complex romance,” adult thrillers, and more. In the adult nonfiction space, she is “dying for books by LGBTQ+ evangelicals who are challenging the Christian space from within the faith and bringing new perspectives.” Submit through her query manager starting Friday, February 16.
NEW: -KT Literary’s literary agent, Adria Goetz, will be open to queries at the end of February. She represents picture books, middle grade, graphic novels (MG/YA/Adult), and adult fiction. She is not looking for memoirs or nonfiction, sports stories, space opera, Amish fiction, or other topics. Submit through her query manager starting February 27.
NEW: -33 1/3 is open to queries for short books about albums. “Only submit if you are able to complete your 30,000-word manuscript within 6-12 months from acceptance.” “No Google Docs, please. Important: Please use this exact format for both the subject line of your e-mail and the name of your document: Artist name, album name, your initials.” Submit the content listed on their pitch guide to [email protected] in a single document as a Word doc or PDF. NEW: -Stardust Arts is hiring an NYC-based digital archivist on a temporary, project-based contract to “survey, establish, and develop the organization’s archive of digital collections and materials.” Candidates should have at least two years of experience working in archives. “Knowledge of contemporary art is preferred but not required.” The rate is $35-$50 per hour.
