–The Globe and Mail is commissioning BIPOC Canadian food writers to produce branded content. The rate is about $500 CAD (about $395 USD) per piece of 800 words, with a turnaround time of one or two weeks. Send inquiries to [email protected].
–Gal-Dem Zine is commissioning new BIPOC writers from all marginalized genders, and are looking for pitches on eating disorder awareness, self-harm awareness, endometriosis, and developmental disabilities. –Variable West is looking for pitches of micro essays on artists (living or dead) for their Love Letters column. The artist needs to be living and working (or lived and worked, if the artist is dead) in California, Oregon, or Washington, but doesn’t need to have work in an exhibition. FREELANCE, PART-TIME, AND TEMPORARY JOBS
–Artsy is hiring for multiple six-month contract positions, including an editorial production coordinator, editorial content coordinator, and editorial news coordinator. The previous rate for the production coordinator position was $15 per hour, but it may have changed. All positions are full-time, and can be done remotely or be based in New York.
–Task and Purpose is hiring writers for their review section. Candidates should have some previous writing experience, and be interested in gear and technology. The rate ranges from $1,500-$2,000 per month, and writers are expected to produce 10-15 buying guides and informational content guides per month.
–HomeAdvisor is hiring multiple freelance writers to join their content and editorial team. Candidates should have at least two years of content writing experience. The rate ranges from $0.10-$0.20 per word, and writers will be expected to write 10-20 articles per month.
–Elite Daily is hiring a part-time writer to cover “anything and everything related to celebrity, music, and pop culture.” Candidates should have at least two years of reporting, writing, or blogging experience. The position is fully remote, starts at $20 per hour, and requires working from 9 am to 4 pm EST 3-4 days per week.
–Popular Science is hiring a writer to help cover sustainability. The writer can be based outside of the US. Send inquiries to [email protected].
–The Street is hiring a freelance writer to cover breaking financial news. Candidates should have some breaking news experience. The rate ranges from $4,400-$5,000 per month or $220-$225 per day. Send a resume and clips to [email protected].
–Techmeme is hiring a part-time editor to cover the tech industry. Candidates should have a deep interest in technology news. The position can be done remotely, but requires working at least one day per week between the hours of 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm PST. Work will begin after a paid training period of at least 15 hours.
–Case Study Buddy is hiring a freelance writer to produce customer success stories for their B2B clients. Candidates should be able to write 1-3 studies per week. The rate ranges from $150-$300 CAD (about $119-$237 USD) per piece. The position can be based anywhere in the world.
–Majuscule is hiring a freelance digital marketer to design, write, and post on-brand social media content; send out a monthly marketing email; and other tasks. The rate is $30 per hour for eight hours of work per week. Send a cover letter, resume, and portfolio to [email protected].
–Documented is hiring a New York-based data reporter on a one-year contract. The reporter will cover the undocumented Spanish and Chinese communities in New York. The annual salary is $75,000. The deadline to apply is February 28.
GRANTS, SCHOLARSHIPS, AND FELLOWSHIPS
–Mashable is accepting applications for its paid entertainment editorial fellowship program in New York. Fellows will work for an initial term of three months, which can then be extended up to a total of 12 months. The fellowship pays $15 per hour, and fellows are expected to work 40 hours per week.
–Hakai Magazine is accepting applications for their paid fellowship program. Fellows will be expected to produce one in-depth piece by the end of the program. The fellowship pays $3,250 CAD (about $2561 USD) per month. Fellows can be based anywhere, but preference will be given to Canadian applicants. The deadline to apply is February 24.
–Dwell is accepting applications for its paid editorial fellowship in New York. Fellows will write original content, and help index and optimize daily news articles. Candidates should have a passion for design and architecture. The fellowship pays $15 per hour, and fellows are expected to work 15-25 hours per week for two or three months.
–The Chronicle of Higher Education is accepting applications for its one-year reporting fellowship in Washington, DC. The fellow will work as a general-assignment reporter covering issues that include race, student activism, and finance. The fellowship pays $40,000 per year with benefits.
-The WGA Foundation is accepting applications for its 2021 Susan M. Fellowship. The fellowship aims to provide financial and creative support to two journalists interested in TV writing who will develop original pilots. The fellowship is remote, and fellows will receive $25,000 to assist with living expenses for a six-month period. The deadline to apply is February 21.
-The Maynard Institute for Journalism Education is accepting applications for its 2021 fellowship program. The fellowship offers year-long mentorship and two training programs, on April 12-16 and November 8-12, for members of African American, Latino, Asian American, Native American, and Middle Eastern communities, as well as mainstream and ethnic media organizations. The deadline to apply is February 24.
-The International Women’s Media Foundation is accepting applications for their Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship. The fellowship is for women and non-binary journalists committed to human rights and social justice reporting. Candidates should have at least three years of professional journalism experience. The deadline to apply is February 25.
–Words Without Borders is accepting applications for their paid editorial fellowship. Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in international literature and be fluent in English, with knowledge of one or more foreign languages preferred. The fellowship is remote, pays $16 per hour, and fellows are expected to work 16 hours per week for nine months. The deadline to apply is February 26.
–Documented is accepting applications for its paid Isaac Rauch Immigration Policy Reporting fellowship. Candidates must be fluent in Spanish, and will be required to report on how New York City or state programs are affecting the lives of immigrant residents. The fellowship includes a $5,000 stipend. The deadline to apply is February 28.
–Searchlight New Mexico is accepting applications for its Santa Fe-based Rob Dean Fellowship program. Fellows will support staff reporters and editors on health, criminal justice, tribal affairs, and education stories. Depending on experience, they may also conduct their own reporting. The fellowship pays a “Santa Fe living wage,” which is $12.10 per hour as of March 2020. The deadline to apply is March 1.
–Reckon is accepting applications for its fellowship program. The fellowship includes a paid master’s degree program from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications, and a part-time position at Reckon. Candidates can be based anywhere in the South, with candidates based in growing Southern cities like Atlanta or Nasheville preferred. The deadline to apply is March 1.
–Places is accepting applications for its remote Critics-in-Residence in Architecture and Landscape Architecture program. One architecture critic and one landscape architecture critic will be paid a stipend of $7,500 to write four critical essays over a one-year period. The deadline to apply is March 12.
–Type Investigations is accepting applications for their Ida B. Wells Fellowship. The fellowship aims to help reporters complete their first major work of investigative reporting with a $20,000 award and editorial guidance from one of their editors. Fellows will also receive funds to cover travel, other reporting costs, and costs associated with attending their annual Investigative Reporters and Editors conference. The deadline to apply is March 14.
-The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism is accepting applications for its Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship program. The fellowship provides ten grants of $10,000 to journalists who want to report longform print and audio stories on agriculture, nutritional policy, the food industry, food science, and other food systems. They prefer US-focused stories, but will also consider international stories with a strong US angle or connection. The deadline to apply is March 15.
-The McGraw Center for Business Journalism is accepting applications for its paid reporting fellowship program. The fellowship aims to provide editorial support and grants of up to $15,000 for journalists to produce investigative stories on the global economy, finance, and business. The deadline to apply is July 16 for the Summer 2021 program.
INTERNSHIPS
–The Nation is accepting applications for its paid editorial internship program. Interns will fact-check the magazine and website, provide research support to writers and editors, and assist with production. The internship pays $18 per hour, and interns are expected to work 35 hours per week. The internship is currently remote-only. The deadline to apply is April 12.
–The City is accepting applications for their paid summer 2021 internship program. Interns will produce stories, search databases, and help with Freedom of Information Law requests. The internship requires working full-time for 10 weeks, and applicants who live in the five boroughs or immediate suburbs are preferred.
–Axios is accepting applications for its paid summer internship programs. Interns can work for the news desk supporting the content team or with visual journalists creating data visualizations for their website and newsletters. Both internship programs are paid, can be done remotely, and lasts 10 weeks.
-The Emma Bowen Foundation is accepting applications for its paid summer 2021 internship program for students of color. Interns in the content track will learn about production, social media, digital media, and broadcast and online journalism. There is no set deadline to apply, but they recommend that students apply as soon as possible.
-The Associated Press is accepting applications for their paid data journalism internship program. Interns will work with the race and ethnicity team to produce data-driven stories and visualizations. Interns can be based in any city with a bureau office. The internship pays $3,500 per month, and interns are expected to work full-time for six months. The deadline to apply is February 21.
–Fanbyte is accepting applications for their paid summer internship. Candidates should have some writing experience, and be eager to learn more about gaming and culture writing. BIPOC LGBTQIA+ applicants are strongly encouraged. The internship is remote, pays $22 per hour, and interns are expected to work 40 hours per week. The deadline to apply is March 5.
–High Country News is accepting applications for their paid internship program. Interns will develop, report, and write two articles per month about the Western United States, and will work with editors to learn how to perform interviews, frame a story, and more. The internship pays a $600 bi-weekly stipend for interns working remotely from within the Western United States; an additional $125 bi-weekly work-from-home allowance; and a one-time signing bonus of $500 to help with IT equipment. Interns can be based anywhere in the Western region of the US. The deadline to apply for the summer internship is March 15.
-The Oxford American is accepting applications for their paid Jeff Baskin Editorial Internship program. Interns will evaluate manuscript submissions, write content for their website, and fact-check and proofread stories. The internship can be full-time or part-time and offers a $2,500 stipend. The deadline to apply for their summer program is April 15.

NEW YORK
–The New York Times is hiring for multiple positions, including a senior staff editor to shape their NYT Kids digital subscription, and a staff editor and senior staff editor to help with the Opinion section’s political coverage. Candidates for all positions should have at least five years of relevant editorial experience.
–The Atlantic is hiring a copy editor to edit articles, social media posts, and occasionally do fact-checking. Candidates should have at least five years of copy editing experience, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. The position can be done remotely, or be based in New York or Washington, DC.
–Bon Appétit is hiring for multiple positions, including a senior commerce editor, associate cooking editor, associate lifestyle editor, associate print editor, and two associate food editors. Candidates for all positions should have at least one year of food journalism experience.
–The Wall Street Journal is hiring a photo editor to produce assignments and work with their bureaus around the world. Candidates should have at least three years of photo editing experience, and proven deep research skills.
–CNN is hiring a senior digital editor to join their culture and trends team. Candidates should have at least five years of management experience, and strong writing and editing skills. The position can be based in Los Angeles, Atlanta, or New York.
–WNYC is hiring a data reporter to cover the pandemic and vaccination efforts on their health and science team. Candidates should have some professional writing and reporting experience, and proficiency in using SQL, Python, or other data tools. The position is a union role.
–Self Magazine is hiring a web producer to build content and newsletters. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in web production or content management, and an interest in health and wellness content is preferred.
–Morning Brew is hiring a writer for their daily newsletter. Candidates should have at least two years of professional writing experience and expertise in business news, with experience writing newsletters preferred.

–The Nation is hiring a senior editor to help lead their print and digital team. They strongly encourage candidates who identify as people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, or gender nonconforming to apply. The starting salary is $82,000.
WASHINGTON, DC
–The Atlantic is hiring a copy editor to edit articles, social media posts, and occasionally do fact-checking. Candidates should have at least five years of copy editing experience, and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style. The position can be done remotely, or be based in New York or Washington, DC.
–The Wall Street Journal is hiring a reporter to join their national security team. Candidates should have extensive experience covering national security issues. THe position will begin remotely, but will be based in Washington, DC when it is safe to do so.
-The Washington Post is hiring for multiple positions, including a technology policy reporter, technology data reporter, technology news analysis writer, workplace technology reporter, personal technology reporter, deputy technology policy editor, personal technology “help desk” writer, local enterprise reporter, and an editor to help run their morning Power Up newsletter. The deadline to apply for all technology-related positions is February 22, and is February 25 for the local enterprise and newsletter editor positions.
–Tax Analysts is hiring a legal reporter to cover Congressional hearings, court decisions, industry press conferences, and tax-related events. Candidates should have strong writing skills and a solid grounding in tax law fundamentals.

-The Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News is hiring for multiple positions, hiringincluding a data reporter and data visualization editor. When it is safe to do so, the data hiring reporter position will be based in Houston, San Antonio or Austin, while the data visualization editor position will be based in Houston or Austin.
–The Dallas Morning News is hiring a reporter to cover consumer-driven local companies, including social media influencers, for a new business beat. Candidates should have at least two years of journalism experience.
–KERA is hiring a statewide managing editor to lead The Texas Newsroom, a program linking NPR and several of the state’s public radio stations. Candidates can be based anywhere in Texas, but should be able to travel statewide for assignments.
–Texas Monthly is hiring an Austin-based editor to lead the magazine’s coverage of business and innovation in the state. Candidates should have at least three years of editing experience, and an intimate knowledge of Texas is strongly preferred.

INTERNATIONAL
–The Wall Street Journal is hiring a Seoul-based reporter to cover Samsung Electronics, especially in relation to the pandemic’s economic fallout, U.S.-China trade disputes, and 5G. Candidates should have an understanding of the technology industry in the region, and a proficiency in Korean is preferred.
-The Wall Street Journal is hiring a Dubai-based bureau chief to cover the Middle East and North Africa. Candidates should have extensive experience as a writer, reporter, and editor. The position will ideally begin in June.
